KID'S SURVIVAL KIT

When I take my boy out hiking or hunting with me I make sure he has the following items in a pouch that he carries:

large zip-lock bag for getting water | ||

Band-Aids |
whistle (for signaling) | ||
|
cyalume light stick |
10ft of rope (paracord) | ||

pocket size space blanket |
pocket knife | ||
|
orange garbage bag (for emergency poncho/shelter - orange for higher visibility should he get lost) |

He is 6 yrs. old, so I have tried to keep it as small as possible so that his carrying it wont be a discouragement. We are still working on the fire-making and compass skills (along with shelter building). Any other suggestions? |
