SAVING SEEDS - PEPPERS

Peppers, hot or sweet...

...or are these seeds I am about to plant really peppers? They looked darned close to tomatoes! :~)

Ok, like tomatoes, you should save the seed from the peppers that you like, meaning that if you have one that is very large and sweet, save the seed from that particular pepper. Interesting note is that peppers are the only vegetable that, once cross-pollinated, the fruit is affected along with the seed. What I mean is that if that little bee stops on and takes a drink from that Habañero then goes on to your Texas Sweet, look out! That pepper is gonna be a surprise when you bite into it.

To save the seed is really easy. Just scoop it out and rinse it under cold water. Place on a paper towel in a warm dry spot for a week to ten days, then label and store.

For those of you that like the hot ones, remember to wear gloves when harvesting the seed. Also, after washing your hands it really is not a good idea to touch the more delicate areas (we all know which ones I am talking about here) of the body for a couple of hours. Let the oils have time to dissipate. I had a friend over (a very macho type) showing off on eating all those hot peppers. Well, one trip to the bathroom and then 10 minutes later...I think you all get the idea. NOTE - Dawn dishwashing liquid will help somewhat.
